Tubulin/A0017

Tubulin, also known as A0017, dimerizes with beta-tubulin to form microtubules, an important component of the cytoskeleton, involved in vesicle transport and cell division.

Tubulin, also known as A0017, dimerizes with beta-tubulin to form microtubules, an important component of the cytoskeleton, involved in vesicle transport and cell division. It is widely expressed, but particularly abundant in the brain, where it is involved in neuronal migration. The 451 amino acid sequence has a molecular weight of 50.1 kDa. Mice with an ENU-induced point mutation in the gene show severe defects related to impaired neuronal migration, particularly in laminar structures such as the hippocampus and cortex. Human alpha-tubulin mutations have been detected with similar phenotypes.
