RAB6/A0364

RAB6, also known as A0364, is presumed to be part of the multifactorial MASC complex and is encoded by a gene on chromosome 7.

RAB6, also known as A0364, is presumed to be part of the multifactorial MASC complex and is encoded by a gene on chromosome 7. It has been linked to Alzheimer’s disease and experiments in mice have suggested that it transports APP protein form the Golgi to the endoplasmic reticulum, where it is broken down by gamma-secretase. It is not yet known how this affects long-term potentiation (LTP) but a current hypothesis is that APP accumulation in the Golgi may affect sorting of other proteins and may contribute to the build up of beta amyloid bundles, which have been shown to be correlated with deficits in LTP.
