MAPK10/A0489

The mitogen-activated protein kinase 10 (MAPK10 also known as c-Jun N-terminal kinase 3 (JNK3) or A0489) is a proline-directed, serine/threonine protein kinase from the CMGC group, MAPK family.

The mitogen-activated protein kinase 10 (MAPK10 also known as c-Jun N-terminal kinase 3 (JNK3) or A0489) is a proline-directed, serine/threonine protein kinase from the CMGC group, MAPK family. It is highly expressed in the nervous system in particular in the hippocampus, cerebellum and striatum. As with other members of the JNK family (JNK1 and 2) JNK3 is activated in response to environmental stress and cytokines and it is also involved in the pathogenesis of toxicity by glutamate. It is believed that JNK3 has a role in stress-induced neuronal apoptosis. A truncation of the JNK3 gene at a point within intron 9 was reported in a male patient with developmental epileptic encephalopathy of the Lennox-Gaustaut type.
