Professor Philip Shaw outlines the main functions of the dorsolateral prefrontal cortex, which include planning, attention, and working memory.
The dorsolateral prefrontal cortex is a highly evolved part of the brain in humans, which matures very late. This is in keeping with its functions. It seems to integrate information from lots of other areas of the brain, so it seems to be like a high level control center for very complex activities, such as attention and working memory, and very complex functions, such as planning activities, so it’s very high level structure.
