Doctor Anil Malhotra discusses how transcription factors can turn genes on or off, possibly leading to increased or reduced risk of illness.
It is possible that genes can be turned on and turned off by stress or again exposure to environmental events. Perhaps these events could turn on transcription factors in the genes of interest, thus leading to increased gene expression of these genes. Similarly, genes can be blocked or the transcription of genes can be blocked by certain events and that is also possible.
