Ventral stream
The ventral stream links the visual cortex with the temporal lobe and is involved in determining what objects are. It differs from the dorsal stream, which determines where objects are located.
Ventricles
The cerebral ventricles are interconnected fluid-filled spaces that are extensions of the spinal cord. They have no unique function but provide cushioning against brain damage and are useful landmarks for determining the location of other brain structures.
Vesicle
Synaptic vesicles are compartments that store neurotransmitter in presynaptic neurons, which are released during exocytosis.
Vestibular system
The vestibular system is a sensory system that includes receptors in the ear. It is involved in the regulation of balance, movement, and orientation.
Voltage-gated ion channel
Voltage-gated ion channels are ion channels in cells (typically neurons) that are activated by local changes in electrical potential.
Voxel
A voxel is the smallest distinguishable volume measurement in a 3-D image. It is the 3-D equivalent of a pixel.
